This family had one of the best lots in the community. The spacious home was centered at the end of a lake facing west and the extensive rear and front footage allowed for maximum creativity. The front landscape was designed to enhance the impressive facade. I created a raised side berm to shield the property from their neighbor and create more of an independent estate feel.
Side gardens are never an afterthought for me. On one side, I created a meandering stone path that accents and expands each of the rooms inside the home. On the other side of the house we visually made use of a community easement to make it appear to be a part of the client’s property.
With over 700 plants there is always something to draw your attention, something is always flowering in every section. Great consideration went into creating bold strokes that fit the scale of the house particularly on the front facade. On a more intimate level, I was so pleased when the homeowner told me how much she enjoys strolling the grounds to see what is in bloom. The lighting was an important element in every section.
This home won the IFDA (International Furnishings and Design Association) award for most outstanding landscape in 2020.
