Westchester County, New York renovations are common, as the house are often 50 to 150 years old and were designed for a different way of living. My clients had found the perfect neighborhood to raise their 3 children, ages 11 to 15 but the house itself was worn. The renovation helped bring the entire house up to this decade and allowed for an entirely new and personal approach to the décor. She grew up on a farm in Wisconsin, is of a Irish heritage, and wanted to connect to her family home.
This project’s starting point was their new warm red Five Star range in the kitchen and a swatch of a perky floral fabric that found its way to the kitchen chairs. “What if we took that warm red and that fabric and used it as the connecting thread for all the rooms on the ground floor?”, I proposed. From there the scheme came together in a flash.

We used the doors from her childhood farmhouse in the den. The living room brought our colors together in a more sophisticated way as we brought in a muted tartan-like plaid for the lounge chairs channeling Ireland. With ample seating and a mix of fun objects the space is a great place to gather and entertain.
Designers note: The client for this project had so many personal connections and cherished items that she wanted to pull into the design that it was like putting a giant puzzle together in a whole new and exciting way. The great chemistry I was able to form with my client was the spark that helped us make hundreds of design decisions so rapidly. The entire house came together in under 7 months.
