About Us

Where History Meets the Table

Clara’s is more than a restaurant—it is a place where history, hospitality, and good food come together. Set within a historic Vermont mansion overlooking the Deerfield Valley, Clara’s carries forward the tradition of gathering that began more than a century ago. Named for Clara Brown, the original lady of the house, our restaurant honors her vision of creating a welcoming place for family, friends, and distinguished guests to share a meal and make memories. Today, that spirit lives on through thoughtfully prepared food, warm hospitality, beautiful surroundings, and a dining experience that feels uniquely Vermont. Whether you’re joining us for an intimate dinner, a special celebration, or simply a memorable meal, we invite you to sit back, savor the moment, and become part of Clara’s continuing story.

Food That Tells a Story

Clara’s Cucina Italiana is named for the original lady of the house, Clara Brown, wife of Martin Brown, who built the hilltop mansion as a summer retreat in 1915. The Browns were spirited lumber barons, who fostered many local connections. As their circle grew, Clara carried out her vision to create an opulent space for gathering and entertaining at their hilltop mansion. Today, the tradition of gracious hospitality continues and we welcome you and your guests to Clara’s Cucina Italiana.

The restaurant offers two distinct dining experiences – guests can enjoy upscale seating within our formal dining rooms or a cocktail at our sophisticated bistro-style Taverna. The menu intertwines fresh local ingredients with classic and beloved Italian dishes.
